Understanding the unwavering love of our Lord Jesus Christ and His everlasting sacrifice that saves us daily.

In one of our recent retrospective sessions, we discussed what to think, what to do or even how to feel when we've fallen off the wagon and the weight of sin and shame and guilt is overwhelming and daunting... How to navigate the emotions that come with backsliding and feeling far from the presence of God and how to "find our feet," if you will. We spoke about the reality of the standard we ought to hold ourselves to. Scripture is clear; 1 Timothy 4:12 says "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity." (NKJV) That is a tall order we immediately recognized we cannot sustain of our own volition or strength. We ABSOLUTELY NEED the Holy Spirit to be that example and not just for show but a truly genuine example.
Romans 5 vs 6-9 (NKJV)
6For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
As people who are obsessively Christian, we had to admit that our journey of daily sanctification would have moments where we make mistakes and need to repent. We discussed how instead of letting our minds beat us down in shame, we ought to see it as an opportunity to relearn, to remind ourselves of every bit of what Jesus's sacrifice on the cross did for us. To instead go back to Romans 5 & 10, 1 Peter 1 & 2, 1 Corinthians 5 & 11, Hebrews 5 & 6; to mention but a few; and remember the beauty of what Jesus's death means for us. How our sins are washed away; every last one. How our guilt and shame is taken away, no matter how heavy the weight. How instead of ashes, He gives us so much beauty by His redemption. How He fills us with His love and joy in forgiveness.
"Come as you are"
Hebrews 4 vs 16 (NKJV)
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Ephesians 3:17-19 is a prayer we want to leave you with. It says "that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (NKJV)
To be filled with the fullness of God comes from an indepth, unshakeable knowing of the wonderful mindboggling love of Christ; a knowing that's deeper than words or thoughts, a knowing that becomes an identity. A knowing like you know your name. Oh what mercy! Oh what grace! That we have the opportunity; despite all our mistakes, all our shortcomings, all the lustful passions we struggle with; that we still have the arms of our Lord and Savior wide open to accept us in repentance. Oh what joy! To fall in love with the Lord again and again and again.
